Canucks scout’s honour: show us the players

It had to be obvious from last week’s press conference that Mike Gillis doesn’t enjoy firing people.

Who would? You work with people who become friends for a long period of time in a team setting, then you have to pull the trigger.

It’s no fun, but it’s part of the job, and knowing when to do it is one of the factors that make successful people in these positions. So let’s discuss the scouting department here. Has the drafting and pro scouting with this team been good enough?

Remember Roberto Luongo?

You will tomorrow. The goalie who is reportedly frustrated, angry and fed up with his lack of playing time will get some in Columbus.

Sitting on the bench for eight of the past 12 games, there has been suggestions that Luongo has become increasingly agitated with his diminished role.

Actually, they weren’t suggestions. People are saying he’s getting antsy and bitter sitting on the bench.

He’s just not one of them.

“Coming into this season, I kind of knew what the situation would be,” Luongo said. “The last couple of games I was in there, obviously I had a really bad game in Detroit and I gave up one bad goal against Calgary.

“You have to look at yourself in the mirror sometimes and expect more out of yourself. That’s what I expect tomorrow.”
