Schneider deal a clear sign that Luongo being replaced

Cory Schneider said he always wanted to sign a multi-year deal with Vancouver but would have mulled an offer sheet if presented with one after July 1.

As a restricted free agent, Schneider would have been exposed to a predatory offer sheet if he was unsigned on July 1. And there was all kinds of noise out of Toronto he may have got one from its GM Brian Burke.

"Not sure what would have happened but you'd have to listen if something was presented to you," Schneider said.

"(But) first and foremost, it was never our intention to seek out an offer sheet.

"I know people threw that out there quite often, but I always said I enjoyed it there in Vancouver. It's a a great place to play and a great place to win so I wasn't necessarily ever looking to get out of Vancouver."

Schneider wanted to stay and proved it when he signed a three-year contract that will pay...

Canucks’ Luongo, Schneider and the goalie situation

CALGARY – Here's the thing about the Vancouver Canucks' goaltending situation – and right now it's still a situation; a situation with the potential to turn into a full-blown controversy but a situation nonetheless. For all the intrigue it's caused and will continue to cause until the moment it's resolved, there are only three things that can happen: the Canucks can trade Roberto Luongo; trade Cory Schneider; or try to keep both for another season. See it's easy. It's only when you start analyzing each scenario that things start to get as complicated as NAFTA and that's why this story will fascinate as long as it has life. There hasn't been a situation comparable to Luongo-Schneider in the NHL's recent history. There have been some with similarities – Mike Smith's emergence with the Dallas Stars in '07-08; Jaro Halak and Carey Price in Montreal a couple of years ago. But neither featured a goalie with the second-highest save percentage in the NHL –...

Fan-Attic: There’s no goalie debate – Schneider is better

This is not just about the stats, although if you would like to see them here they are. No, this is about who is better technically and would present the Canucks with the best chance in the playoffs to return to the Stanley Cup final.trans There is No Canucks Goalie Debate Cory Schneider is Better Even if you are not a hockey purist or never played the goaltender’s position, I would say to you, watch for these characteristics during a few games. In the butterfly position, who is more upright? If you took a hockey stick and placed it against each goalie’s back, which is more vertical thus covers more net? When they move laterally and push off with the opposite skate, which one gets to the other side without exposing too much area in between the pads. Does there seem to be any wasted effort in the movement? Who is in a better position after...

Canucks storm back against Ducks for shootout win

VANCOUVER - The defence finally rested for the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, but it it didn't matter. They still won.

The Anaheim Ducks built a 4-2 second-period lead -- and chased Vancouver starter Roberto Luongo in the process -- but couldn't hang on as the Canucks stormed back to claim a 5-4 shootout win at Rogers Arena.

Luongo was yanked, to considerable cheers from the home crowd, at 7:03 of the second period when Devante Smith-Pelly scored to make it 4-2.

He allowed four goals on 15 shots. Cory Schneider blanked the Ducks the rest of the way, but only faced nine shots.

After the game, Schneider expressed his feelings about the harsh treatment Luongo occasionally receives from the home-town fans.

"I mean, it's getting old," Schneider said. "I'm glad they like me and they support me, but he is a guy who has done a lot for this team and this city and I think he deserves better than that."

Schneider and...

Milan Lucic’s girlfriend tells Cory Schneider ‘F U’ calls his girlfriend ‘trucker’ and ‘classless’

I live by three hard rules….

1. I find movies about ex CIA, Navy SEALS, Special Forces Members, irradiated carnies, etc… that take jobs as chauffeurs completely unbelievable unless they’re transporting some kind of Asian private school girl out of danger.

2. Trying to fold a fitted sheet is my own personal, Hiroshima. So I don’t even try.

3. Two dudes fighting? OK. Two ladies throwing down?  Gold, pure gold.

Just when we thought the Boston Bruins / Vancouver Canucks rivalry had mellowed a little bit, this happened:

tumblr m1sqxy6nnm1qd9qzjo1 5002 Milan Lucics Cory Schneiders Girlfriend Take the Canucks / Bruins Rivalry to the Next Level. No Word if Sexy Pillowfight Scheduled.

Milan Lucic’s girlfriend, and high heel enthusiast, Brittany Carnegie took the Bruins / Canucks rivalry to the next level. Some thoughts:

So, umm, first… I don’t think “fingered” is exactly the right term here, I mean, I’m not going to lie, my, Bruins/Canucks...

Schneider pouncing on his opportunities; With Luongo back in winning form, backup with starter credentials aims to improve his rising stock

Iain MacIntyre Vancouver Sun RALEIGH, N.C. On the first attempt of Wednesday's shoot-out practice, with goalie Roberto Luongo barely out of the fetal position after getting abused the night before, Vancouver Canuck defenceman Kevin Bieksa fooled his team-mate with a fake, did a spina-rama and backhanded the puck into an open net while delighted teammates hooted. Then backup Cory Schneider was confirmed as the Canucks' starter tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes. We're pretty sure the two events were unrelated. At least Bieksa did his part to eradicate what remained of Luongo's shootout confidence. "I told him: 'It's not you, it's me,' " Bieksa said when asked about his cruelty after Luongo went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets. "It wasn't that he was bad; I was just too good." Apparently, so were Blue Jackets' captain Rick Nash, someone named Mark Letestu, and James Wisniewski, who is a defenceman. "Why is there an assumption that forwards make the best shootout players?"...

Luongo insists he’s happy Schneider’s a Canuck

Wayne Scanlan Postmedia News OTTAWA - For now, consider this the order of things where the always popular Vancouver Canucks' goaltending situation is concerned. First, here comes Roberto Luongo, walking off the ice in full gear, slapping gloves with fans and signing autographs for those clever enough to know the Canucks would be practising in a downtown Ottawa rink. Next, Cory Schneider, same drill, high fives all around. To hear players and coaches tell it, the idea of Luongo and Schneider conversing and kidding with each other is just as likely as this friendly mixing with fans. Never mind that one Canucks hockey writer described the goalie situation on the left coast as "the most divisive debate in British Columbia since the HST," the goalies themselves get along. It's the situation that rankles. Schneider, 25, is too good to be an NHL backup, and needs a team to call his own - if not in Vancouver, then somewhere. Schneider is finishing out the two-year deal...
